My name is Hani, I am a student at City Lit doing an ESOL course. My hobbies are music and cooking but, most of my time I spend in a studio recording songs. What I love about London is that London is a multi cultural city where you can meet or see different people from all over the world. London also has many attractive places.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to let you know that I booked a holiday for two weeks for two people, and paid in advance £2000. I booked the holiday in January 15th to go to Brighton for Easter break and the holiday time is March 29th –April 12th. I was disappointed with your holiday offer. When I was reading your brochure, I was very impressed with the services you provided and that was the main reason I booked the holiday.
However, after a long journey when we arrived we hoped to have a good res .However the moment we arrived at the hotel, we went to our room the room was not cleaned, not only that also we saw mice and cockroaches. I contacted the reception staff and explained everything. The staff were unable to help so we asked for. We explained everything again. We asked the duty manager to give us a clean and better room. Unfortunately instead of helping us he was very unhelpful to us.
As we had no any other choice we decided to leave your hotel and to look for another hotel in town. We took a taxi in the middle of the night and stayed at the other hotel for the rest of our holiday.
Therefore, I am writing this letter to let you know that we demand not only the £2000 we paid to your company but we also demand the £3000 we paid for the other hotel and an apology. If we don’t hear from you within 14working days we will take legal action.

Book title: Cry Myself to Sleep

The book is based on a true story and it tells in detail of a sad story of a boy who was victimised by his own mother and by his mother boyfriend (lover).
Joe was only five years old when he lost his beloved father in a car fire accident. After he lost his dad, he lost his voice. No one knew why he had lost his voice. On top of that his mum never liked him even when his dad was round. He was very close with his dad and his dad used to take him every were he went, but Joe never got on with mum he was always close with his dad and his mum was never happy about it.
Joe was only nine years old when he was sold to a paedophile. He was raped and abused until he was sixteen. Joe finally managed to escape from his nightmare with no money, with nothing at all.
Joe did manage to escape from his abusers somehow; its bad experience was with him every step he walked. While he was on the street he became an angry yang man and never trusted anyone. He had a very difficult time, even he turned to crime. There was no body or any relatives to help him to lead a normal life.
As Joe has no money, no place to live he slept rough on the street of London. HE met a very kind woman. And this kind woman somehow she managed to help him. Since he met the women he tried to overcome his past problem. After all these up and down life Joe left his past experience behind and leads a normal life style.
Cry Myself to Sleep is a wonderful book written nicely and in a simple way. The story tells how the little boy Joe grew up into a remarkable man and how he has regained his voice again. Joe speaks out against child abuse and helps support and protect other children who lives have been suffered from it.
Cry Myself to Sleep is a wonderful book. A book which should be read by everybody. This book is well written and it shows how a man like Joe who has suffered so many bad experiences and all sorts of abuse in his childhood not only that but in his young adult life as well can still manage to go on living a decent life style , find love again and have a loving family is simply unbelievable.
This book is a must for everybody to read even though it is a very sad story it worth spending time to read it. And if you read this book you never stop crying from start to finish.

true friend

I met my true friend when I was 16. Since then we have remained close friends. The reason why I call this person a true friend is because they have never changed in any way. Since our friendship started.we still remain very best friends.

I will describe this friend as:-honest,positive about things,a good listiner,religious,open,kind,intelligent, smart,reliable,ambition,very talented,educated etc....that why i called my friend is "true friend".
I hope it will continue until the day we DIE.I thank GOD for giving me the best friend ever.

My problem

One week before Easter, my filling came out from my next to the wisdom tooth.

I tried a temporary filling, but because it wasn’t proper dental material, it only lasted till I ate something.

I felt awkward to ask a dentist how much it costs, and it’s possible whether I can have a white filling instead of a metal one. Also what it the surface of filling? The filling top like artificial flat or having natural shape as my original? Which dentist is the most reliable? Although I have been to a private dentist long time ago when I done my filling changing. I can’t remember how much I paid at that time, but my teeth they fixed were fine.

My big question is that whether I should go to a private dentist or NHS dentist. If you have any information about NHS dentist, please advise me. Masumi

My partner and I booked one week's holiday one month ago, and having recently returned from it at the above address, I wish to complain about the standard of the cottage.

My complaint is as follows: the tiles in the bathroom were filthy and cracked; the general cleanliness and decoration was very poor, noting at all like the pictures we saw on the internet. When we asked the owner to do something, he considered the cottage was in satisfactory condition and he avoided us for the rest of our holiday.

As the price we paid for this holiday was at the top of your price range. I thought the conditions would be of a high standard. So as the reality was very poor I would like some compensation to reflect the real value of the holiday. I enclose photographs which show you, clearly, the low standard of the cottage and its faults.

I look forward to an offer of compensation whithin 14 days.

''The Woman and The Law'' by Wilkie Collins. Book review

I am not s policewoman or private detective, but this novel makes me feel like the main character, Valeria. The story starts when she married Eustace Woodville. But not long after marrying, she suspected there was a dark secret in her husband's life. She discovered that she had been given a false name and she determined to find out why her husband hid his true identity from her.She was shocked when she knew he had been on trial for poissoning his first wife. Convinced of his innocence, Valeria was prepared to do anything to clear his name, upon the conventions of nineteenth century society. She was going to solve an unsolved murder case.

History, mystery and romance are the reasons why I love this book. It made me see how women in that period of the history lacked freedom. But Valeria was willing to fight these conventions and find out the truth, even though society opposed her.

It has been a good solid entertaining mystery. I have become a fan of Collins and look forward to reading more of his novels.

Collins presents a new concept an amateur detective and even goes as far as making his protagonist a woman, very unusual in Victorian society. It is probably the first full-length novel with a female detective.

If you want to know whether Valeria succeeds, you will have to read the book.

I'm Juliana from Brazil. I came to London to try different things as I was disappointed with my country and I found in London almost everything I'm looking for.
I'm little bit crazy about environment as I love nature and all the things it provides. Also I like cinema, books and music.
Moreover I'm doing Esol at City Lit and I'm enjoying it, my teacher and classmates are really nice people

I have a problem

It is really hard for me to pronounce some words in English. Those words, even if I try repeat and repeat is like I am saying other words instead. Some people try to help me, others laugh and some pretend to understand and move on.
