My first best friend

Well, I grew up with three sisters and there is one or two years between us. So, as I remember I was always with them. We did long walks through the countryside and we went to places where there were rivers to swim. Also we played funny games together. One in particular which I still remember was so nice. It had to be during the night because had to be dark. We switched off all the lights at home and one of us had to count until one hundred, the others had to hide. After that the sister who was counting had to find the hidden ones(it is a game called hide and seek). It was so scary and funny! Yes, my best friends always are my sisters.

Radio 4 Historyof the World in 100 objects

Hi everyone

When you have time, could you please go onto the Radio 4 website (bbc.co.uk/radio4) I think. Find the link for the History of the World in `100 objects. This is a really interesting programme that the bbc has made in partnership with the British Museum, which is just round the corner from us!

Choose a programmne/object. Listen to the programme. Write a review of the programme: (200 words)

Write 3 ragraphs: What is the object and its history?

What did you learn?
Wouldyou recommend this programme why/why not?
This is in preparation for the writing exam. So please post your review on the blog some time next week.

Thanks.

Jane

My Film Review

On the web site www.npr.org I was able to read a review about Avatar (2009 film). "Avatar" is a story of an ex-Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. I was very interested to watch this science fiction movie because it is very amazing to see the role of computer animation to realise these kinds of movies.

Here are some steps to writing a movie review:

Introduction

Step1:
See the movie. Even if you are pretty sure it will be bad. You don't want to just see movies that you know you are going to like.

Step2:
Take notes during the film. Write down the name of the stars, director and screenwriter. Note the running time of the film and the rating.

Step3:
Take time to soak in the film . Think about it for a few hours before you begin writing. Let your appreciation or distaste wear off a bit so you don't write too emotional.

Step4:
Identify your audience. It is the general public reading a newspaper review, or is it a group of movie buffs that want to dissect every inch of a film.

Step5:
Go home and write. Start with the introduction. Most movie review readers like to be entertained by the review, so think up a good line to hook the reader or a theme for your review.

Step6:
Start writing the review. Include the basic plot of the movie and cover the major events but do not give away surprise plot twists or the ending. Movie reviews are typically 250 to 500 words.

Step7:
Discuss relevants parts of the movie. Include your opinion of the direction, script, actors and photography.

Step8:
Let your review sit for a few hours, then look at it with fresh eyes and edit it.

How to improve my English

I generally visit every day the web site of www.bbc.co.uk to get more information which I think that is important for me. Furthermore it is one of the most famous information sources in the UK. From there I have the weather forecast, the daily news from all the world and over all topics. Finally the language level is what I need to improve my Englich skills. For all these reasons I could recommend everyone who is learning Englich to visit this web site.

Reflective Diary

Over the past month, I have used my netbook to: create a blog, post a personal profile, skiped, uploaded images, post a film review, post an accommodation to let advertisement, to check my email, research on the internet, post a problem to solve, to study vocabulary and grammar.
As a result of this, I have been able to: learn more skills, reading, writing and listening skills, improved my pronunciation, gain confidence, improved my grammar skills, communicate more with my classmates, feel more motivated.
For next month, I would like to focus on:writing skills, making a film together, chatting via skipe in a small groups, share experiences through writing, post opinions and solve difficult problems on the blog, post a blog about an interesting unknown aspect of your country.
